The AGS was founded in 1991. The Society serves Professional Geologists, working geologists, geology students, and geology-interested folks throughout the metro Atlanta area.

Organized in 1922 and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1953, the Georgia Academy of Sciences has grown to a membership some 450 strong, whose interests encompass the sciences, engineering, and technology from astrophysics to zoology.

The Georgia Geological Society was founded to bring together people who are interested in the geology and geologic history of the State of Georgia.
